Falcons and hawks deter seagulls at Prima Deshecha
Orange County Landfills run an experiment using trained birds to harass gulls feeding on waste at the Prima Deshecha site. Falcons Falstaff and Boris the Harris hawk patrol the sky while master falconer Adam Chavez trains them to deter various birds from the landfill area.

Proposed downtown hotel in San Juan Capistrano plans unveiled
A 130 to 150 room hotel with 5 000 to 10 000 square feet of meeting space plus restaurant and retail space and 17 to 20 single family homes on three acres between Camino Capistrano and Del Obispo Street is described in a preliminary concept by Urban Village Development. The project, near 31878 Camino Capistrano, would be within the Historic Town Center Master Plan area, aiming for a mixed use footprint that respects the town’s character. The plan follows an approved downtown master plan from April covering 150 acres and includes Mission San Juan Capistrano. Urban Village prioritizes community feedback while the proposal remains in early design stage. A parallel plan, Plaza Banderas with 124 rooms and adjacent retail, was approved in 2010 and could begin after an I-5 Ortega Highway interchange project concludes in spring 2015.
