Werd Died From Self-Administered Poison Near Happy
C W Werd died at his home near Happy from what authorities say was strychnine taken under belief it was calomel. He left a wife and three children. Interment was at Amarillo with Masonic rites. The Amarillo Herald claimed degenerated calomel caused the death, but officials say he prepared the dose himself from a medicine chest containing both drugs and misread the bottle labels.
