An editorial compares quitters in town affairs to a calf that bawls when deprived of all calves, arguing public good favors doers not dreamers. It warns that those who quit when plans fail become has beens, while the public wants doers who produce now. Brownwood Bulletin.
Amarillo plans no Fourth of July celebration or fall fairs and horse races while nearby towns host these events. The town focuses on selling town lots and other ventures. An Indiana postmaster, Fr M Hamilton of Cherryvale, notes Chamberlain’s Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy is standard and reliable, sold locally by S V Wirt.
A historic classified-style notice from Crowdus Brothers and Hume Co advertises wholesale plour and horse hides with a blatantly racist slogan. The ad reflects period business language and discriminatory rhetoric.
The board classified land by type and assigned per acre values: Black land class 1 850, class 2 825, class 3 20. mixed 15, sandy land class 1 310, class 2 7, class 3 85. Some land previously counted as high as 65 per acre was reassessed to its proper class per the scale.
The Briscoe County commissioners court in session as a board of equalization set land values from 50 cents per acre for grazing land in brakes to 2.50 per acre near Silverton within six miles, while cutting personal property values about 50 percent. The Silverton Enterprise questions why personal property isn’t similarly adjusted. Old classification methods persist in black land counties with raises from a third to half, though values remain well under market.

J. M. Rockwell and W. A. Buie presidents of Rockwell Lumber Co visited town early this week to take stock of the Canyon Lumber Company yard contents, a Rockwell branch, and review inventory.
Announcement of the marriage of Inez Claire Bowen to Travis Shaw on June 11 1907 in Detroit. The couple will reside in Canyon Texas after July 1. Shaw is praised as an efficient bank assistant cashier with good character and the notice offers congratulations from friends locally and elsewhere.
Notice to property owners in Canyon City Texas to appear at office room 6 Smith Building and pay year 107 taxes. Unpaid taxes by July 1 incur a 5 percent penalty and collection as directed by law. J W Turner City Tax Collector.
Rev Robeson delivered a fine discourse last Sunday on Grace. The community shows strong interest in gospel services. Dozens attended church with Emma Hoffman elected organist and Miss Naylor teaching Sunday school advancing nicely. A revival begins Thursday the 26th at Paladuro with Rev Jenkins of Amarillo assisting Rev Ballard.
For the New Mexico Irrigation Celebration to be held at Carlsbad New Mexico July 4 and 5 inclusive the Pecos Valley Lines will sell round trip tickets at greatly reduced rates. The rate from Canyon City Texas to Carlsbad and return will be 7.50. Tickets on sale July 1 to 7 inclusive with return limit leaving Carlsbad not later than July 7 1007.
