The Estevan District Court tried Friday nast Jacob Lemm for assisting alien enemies to escape from Canada. He was found guilty and sentenced to two months in prison. The trial was open and public with able defence. In contrast a Brussels German court martial tried Miss Eob Cavell on October 9 for escaping Belgium. She had no counsel and was not informed of charges. On October 11 she was sentenced to death and shot hours later by a German officer.

The Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture released a final crops report noting wheat averaging 25.2 bushels per acre, near the 1901 record, with oat yields strong enough to offset reduced wheat acreage. Frost damaged oats in districts 7 and 8, and 14 percent of flax in districts 1 to 4 suffered frost. overall regional yields support a steady postharvest outlook.
Netro Calyi of Canova was found guilty of indecent assault and sentenced to seven years in the Prince Albert penitentiary.

The 1916 Council includes Korbin and councilors G. Graham, 1916-17 Lsa. M. Fyhri and D. Hall Sutherland. Trustees by acclamation are Fyhri, Sutherland, Betts, Barschel, Jorgenson for the 1916 Board.

The Grandview Exponent reports the death of Robert Blakely aged 71 after a brief illness. Born in County Down Ireland in 184, he emigrated to the United States then Canada, settling in Arnprior and Smiths Falls before moving west to Grandview fourteen years ago. He married Matilda Parker in 1872. she predeceased him. Survived by six daughters and four sons and one sister, he was a devout Presbyterian and active in the Orange order, Royal Black Knights of Ireland, and Foresters, with Conservative politics. Funeral at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hislop Dickson officiating.
