Canadian Court Finds Lemm Guilty and Imprisons Two Months

The Estevan District Court tried Friday nast Jacob Lemm for assisting alien enemies to escape from Canada. He was found guilty and sentenced to two months in prison. The trial was open and public with able defence. In contrast a Brussels German court martial tried Miss Eob Cavell on October 9 for escaping Belgium. She had no counsel and was not informed of charges. On October 11 she was sentenced to death and shot hours later by a German officer.

Nominations Monday were quiet and all positions were filled by acclimation. Mayor Korbin will seek a third term with L. Franklin and John Sinnott re-elected, Dr. J. G. Warren replacing Otto Spander. Obituary of Grandview Pioneer Robert Blakely

The Grandview Exponent reports the death of Robert Blakely aged 71 after a brief illness. Born in County Down Ireland in 184, he emigrated to the United States then Canada, settling in Arnprior and Smiths Falls before moving west to Grandview fourteen years ago. He married Matilda Parker in 1872. she predeceased him. Survived by six daughters and four sons and one sister, he was a devout Presbyterian and active in the Orange order, Royal Black Knights of Ireland, and Foresters, with Conservative politics. Funeral at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hislop Dickson officiating.
