Orchard Heating Proves Frost Protection Value at Canon City
Mr. Hamilton protected ten acres by artificial heating while ten acres unheated froze, showing the premium cost of protection far below the potential crop loss. He bought twenty acres at Grand Junction in May 1907 for 14000 dollars and declined a 25000 dollar offer without the fruit, with trees valued at six to nine thousand dollars. Canon City climate favors horticulture, suggesting Hamilton’s method could succeed locally.
