The fifteenth annual South Canon high school commencement at First Presbyterian church added twenty new alumni, fourteen women and six men, and featured a large class with the motto No Victory Without Labor. Dr. Sanford Bell delivered the address on whether the nation pays for its billion dollar school system, urging practical studies and earlier manual training.

Miss Hubbell will go to California and Washington visiting many places on the Pacific coast before return to Colorado. Miss Wood will visit Winona and other points in Minnesota. Miss May will spend the summer at Salida. Miss Ure will probably spend time on the western slope before schools reopen. Miss Ole Proctor will go to Denver shortly and to Texas later. Miss will spend some time in Denver Nutting in Boulder Miss Nelson inver Miss Calder in Colorado Sp and Miss Seelye in New York and parts of the east.
After school closed, teachers plan summer trips for rest, study, and travel. Superintendent Thompson returns to Fyan Missouri. Miss Minor stays near Hannibal Missouri. Miss Goodykoontz visits Chicago Cedar Falls Iowa. Mr Hall may study at Nebraska University. Foster travels to Kansas City Trenton Missouri. Professor Erwin heads to Muncie Indiana. Mr Ryle dispositions toward a summer project.
The regular weekly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held at 832 Macon Avenue. Mrs Atwater led war exercises with Grace and Nellie P Weston on the program. Messages on self control in home and schools were shared. Smiley sang a solo. press work discussed. T J Schall returned from a Kansas trip reporting good looks for commerce and crops.

The Palace Drug Store at Main and Sixth in Canon City boasts ornate pagoda show cases with Venetian glass and solid oak fittings. A movement to form a Canon City Country Club aims to include golf polo tennis cricket and croquet plus social events. Temporary officers are James H. Peabody Truman Stockton and Dr Harry Goodloe. anticipated enrollment 150. dues 25 yearly with 50 initiation. Funds from socials target a building and club house with billiards library dining and reception areas. site options include Three Mile Spring Natatorium Glass House and a Lincoln Park tract. Funds raised from a recent social event support the project and a local church building fund.
A concert by the First Methodist church choir drew three to four hundred people despite bad weather. The program featured quartets duets and solos with strong ensemble singing and applause. After the performance the choir was treated to ice cream cake and refreshments by the Ladies’ Aid society in the dining room.
The Christian church Ladies Aid hosted a historical dollar social Tuesday evening. Members presented rhymes about their earning experiences and a varied program included instrumental music by the young people's orchestra and several women performers.
Memorial services will be held at Mt Olive Baptist church Thursday evening. Program includes My Country Tis of Thee, prayers, patriotic readings, solos, recitations, duets, and addresses by Rev. Reynolds, Rev. Williams, and Mrs. J K Brice among others. Leonada Moore and Alyce Walton contribute papers and additional performances close the program.
Gerrity Van Wyke, convicted in Logan county for murdering a young woman to claim her life insurance, was brought to the penitentiary on a life term. The case drew wide attention in Colorado. his Polish Jewish wife was acquitted at trial but later the husband won a second conviction and appeal to the supreme court denied.
Dr. Lamb, state veterinary, reports cattle deaths in Montrose county are caused by a small bulbous plant with a yellow blossom. Each blossom carries enough toxin to kill several people, and about four thousand cattle have died in recent weeks from eating it.
Miss Mignon Baker will leave on Saturday for Boston to attend the reunion of her Wellesley College class. The reunion will be held in Boston on June 6 with members expected from across the United States.
Annie E Cone has purchased a residence in Canon long owned by inheritance. She has lived in Canon almost twenty years and owns local realty. The substantial home, built by the late Benjamin Knight, sits near Ninth and Fairview. The Harding family recently acquired it, as H McClure returned from a visit to southern California.
