Kansas Colorado irrigation suit finally dismissed

The Kansas Colorado irrigation dispute, a major interstate case since 1901, is dismissed from the U S Supreme Court for lack of proof of damages or due to Colorado not engaging in irrigation as a state. Kansas may pursue remedies only if injury is shown. experts testified that the river system divides and seepage favors Colorado.

Canon City Woman's Club closes season with President's Day reception

The Canon City Woman's Club held its year end reception at Mrs. T. M. Harding's home in observance of President's Day. The group, about sixty members, finished a study of Motley’s History of the Dutch Republic. Weather kept attendance down. the club will resume in October with Mrs. H. L. Plummer elected president for 1907-8.

Patton Visits Canon City Briefly

Patton, greatly pleased with his visit, stopped in Canon City a week or ten days ago to see his nephew C. C. Patton during a brief stay.

Patton Tours Colorado Trails and Port Lands

Mr Patton traveled from Ohio toward the Pacific coast stopping in Canon City to admire scenery and Royal Gorge. He then visited Cripple Creek on Tuesday where a severe snowy storm disrupted travel for several miles surrounding the town.

Canon City Merchants Plan Monthly Luncheon at St. Cloud

The Canon City Merchants Association will hold its first monthly luncheon at the St. Cloud hotel on Monday evening the 27th. It will be informal with short speeches by members on topics relating to local commerce. The group has about one hundred members and aims to boost the business life of the city by regular meetings on the last Monday of each month.

Local committees prepare for the Colorado State Sunday School Convention to be held June 18 to 20 at the First M E church. The event aims to be highly successful with Rev. Dr. Wilcox of Colorado Springs delivering the opening address and E C Knapp of Hartford, Conn. among the speakers.

Local Man Kills Wife Then Self in Butler

John L. Herr, a Civil War veteran and former oil producer, shot his wife with a shotgun then killed himself with a pistol. Herr survived. his wife was dying. Report states he had been drinking and may have been insane.

Supreme Court Favors Park Center Water Rights

The Supreme Court affirms Park Center Land and Water Co. title to Cripple Creek drainage tunnel waters. The ruling settles years of dispute over water appropriation and confirms the company’s rights to the artificial flow from El Paso drainage tunnels for irrigation north of the city.

Civic Improvement League names committees for street fair

At a meeting held at the Harding residence the Civic Improvement League formed the street fair plan to raise funds for city beautification in Canon. An executive committee and multiple subcommittees were named to handle tents seats vaudeville gipsy camp and other attractions for the two night event next month at the Denver and Rio Grande park with hopeful proceeds around one thousand dollars.

Dawson Praised For Role In Kansas Colorado Irrigation Case Victory

Clyde Dawson of this city played a central part in the defense of the Kansas Colorado irrigation suit before the United States Supreme Court. He oversaw evidence preparation and argued before the justices, expressing a belief that equity outweighed strict legal principles in the case.

Hurt in a Runaway on Lincoln Park

Charles Sweitzer of Elm Avenue Lincoln Park was severely injured when his horse startled by an automobile on Sherman Avenue. He was thrown from the buggy, bruised about the head and shoulders, carried into a nearby house, and treated by a physician after being found unconscious.

Western Passenger Association in Chicago refused the application and ordered cancellation of any agreements. Tickets from Canon City to Omaha St Joseph Kansas City Topeka St Louis Memphis Chicago Duluth Milwaukee St Paul Sioux City and other points are on sale June 15 16 17 22 23 24 29 30 July 1 6 July 9 12 July 19 20 21 good to return by October 31 1907.

Knights of Columbus Leadville meeting report

Frank McGillicuddy and John L. Hennessy attended the fifth annual state council gathering in Leadville as representatives of the Royal Gorge council. Delegates named include John D. Reddin and Dan B. Corley from Denver, with alternates M. W. Purcell of Colorado Springs and John J. Feehy of Denver. A banquet and dance followed the Leadville council session in the Cloud City.

Entertains Sunday School Class Before Departure

Mrs Sullivan hosted a Sunday school class gathering on Tuesday evening in Canon City. Members Kate Barnes Ethel Churchill May Bloxham Maud Elrod Halden McNut Marie Cory Dorothy Watson Vera Sullivan Angie Arthur May Howells Millie Daily Fannie Adams attended. The event honored Kae Barnes and Fannie Adams who are soon leaving Canon City. Each guest received a souvenir spoon as a token of respect and affection. Games and refreshments followed.
