Roosevelt visits Canon City on Colorado hogback tour

President Roosevelt and party arrived in Canon City at 12:20 pm after a hunting trip, greeted by about 4500 people at the D and R G station. He spoke briefly to a rapt crowd, praising Colorado as a playground and Switzerland of America, while noting the state’s resources.

Revival boosts Canon City church membership after tabernacle meetings

Sunday brings record crowds to every evangelical church in Canon City as Rev. W. A. Sunday’s revival yields 198 converts in morning services with 82 baptisms. First Presbyterian tops 800 members while First M. E. Church adds over 200. many more choose that denomination, pushing total near 900 after all admissions. Dr. W. C. Kirkwood notes unprecedented rate of church growth across the community.

High School Oratorical Contest at First Presbyterian

The High School Oratorical Contest at the First Presbyterian church drew a large audience as four girls and three boys from North and South Canon high schools competed for cash prizes funded by Guy A. Haruz. Judge M. S. Bailey presided, praising the contest’s educational value and announcing future expansion to include all county high school students. George Haddon won first prize and Ona Pittenger second amid cheers. judges George W. Wilkes and C. H. Bissell filled in for absent officials.

Arkansas Valley Editorial Association Holds Rainbound Meeting

The sixth annual Arkansas Valley Editorial Association gathering at Elks hall Canon City faced heavy rain and mud deterring many members. Despite low attendance, the day featured a long program, debates over secretary treasurer duties, and discussions on rail advertising. Officers for 1906 were elected. Salida to host next meeting. Canon City banquet followed with remarks from ex governor Peabody and other editors.
