Votes for chapel organ race spark school room bids

Votes pour in for a county chapel organ to be placed in a school room. Pupils hustle for new subscribers and renewals to maximize 500 and 300 vote rewards, plus a $5 prize for top collector. Several rooms listed, including SOUTH CANON and GARDEN PARK locations.

Lectures at Catholic Church by Rev. Brockbank

Beginning at 7 30 p m on February 16 a seven part series will be given at the Catholic church by the celebrated Rev 8 R Brockbank O P. The program invites all creeds to attend and aims to inform non Catholics about Roman church teachings.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent with a period of quiet during festivities. Easter Sunday falls on March 30, earlier than the typical date this season.

Committed death by own action near Garden Park

Marshall P. Felch 67 resident of Garden Park ranch died Sunday evening by shooting himself in the head. Coroner’s inquest found the body in a tent with a rifle beside him and a life long interest in antiquities evident from his shelves of paleography pamphlets. Felch had suffered months of melancholy and left a note for the coroner. He leaves a son Ned at home and a daughter Mrs Zimmerman of La Junta. burial held in the city.

Boy Causes Yard Turmoil Before Police Magistrate

A small boy provoked considerable excitement in the D and R G yards Tuesday noon by stone throwing. Watchman and special policeman detained him and brought him to the police magistrate. The father protested, but Magistrate Pennington gave a stern talk and released the youth due to his extreme age.

Organ Contest Brings $5 Rewards to Top Voters

A local promotion offers five dollars to the boy or girl who submits the most votes in the organ contest. Participants are urged to collect votes, sign the tally with their name, and turn in the entries. The prize structure aims to equalize efforts between boys and girls, with a final count after the organ is awarded. This notice also plugs Banta'sa Cash Grocery at 712.

Social Happenings Round Up Local Gatherings

Mrs Will H Peabody hosted friends Tuesday afternoon with refreshments and a pleasant time. Dr and Mrs Craven hosted Saturday events for afternoon and evening. Mrs F A Twitchel and Miss Ida White hosted Methodist church kindergarten teachers last Thursday. A farewell to Mr and Mrs Lyman Robison was given by Capt and Mrs Rockafellow Thursday. Guests included Rev and Mrs Ayres and daughter, Mr and Mrs R S Lewis, Miss Minor, and Mrs F L Bartlett of Denver. George Baker hosted a Main street party with progressive euchre. Marie Duncan entertained Saturday evening with parlor croquet and music by Misses Wasson from South Canon. Ferris Taylor and Dr Calhoun were in attendance. Refreshments served.

Con Game Man Hits City Then Florence Suspect Apprehended

A con man visited the city last Saturday, separating C. H. Edmunds from a twenty dollar bill by a sugar and flour delivery scheme. He fled to Florence where he was captured and jailed. He had priorly tried the same trick at Cripple Creek and Victor and failed at Nelson and Co. grocery here.

Illnesses around town as residents recover

George Whitmore and Mrs C F Tanner’s child recover from illness. John Kettle returns home from pneumonia at Silver Cliff and is improved. Mrs Ray Little plans return to Kansas when able. Fred Putnam recovers from months of typhoid fever and returns to work at the Omaha Market.
