Florence Linked to Kansas Colorado Railroad Uncertain Plan
Florence may connect to the Kansas Colorado rail line with a survey from Pueblo to Turkey Creek and Penrose to Canon City. A Florence spur rumor suggests a prairie route, requiring a switch. Florence paid a $500 bonus toward a river crossing near Gumner springs, but a new plan could reduce benefits.

May Extend Scenic Road Further Into the Gorge
Alderman Okey proposed extending the scenic roadway into the Royal Gorge about three quarters of a mile beyond the present terminus, within two miles of the Hanging Bridge. He suggested tunnel boring for a conduit and a roadside path up to mile post 164, to avoid railroad rights of way and boost tourism using prison labor with state water supply for the penitentiary. The plan, proposing two tunnels and a road, would require minimal city cash beyond powder tools and an overseer, and was referred to the water committee for action.
