Adoption Granted to Chinese Boy by Sydney Court
In Equity Court Mr Justice Selby granted a Chinese couple in Sydney an adoption order for a 15 year old Chinese schoolboy Lee Yen Chum. The boy, admitted to Australia as a student, would remain under ministerial discretion after his studies. The order was issued to the boy’s uncle Foo Lee and his wife Tom Luey King of Bondi. Lee Yen Chum’s naturalised Australian status since 1960 and his parents’ deaths in China were noted. The judge stressed the move would give the boy permanent home ties and security to aid his welfare.
