In London the Lao request to the United Nations for intervention was reported with no details on when or how the approach was made. British officials said they supported UN action against aggression, while noting the decision rests with Secretary General Hammarskjöld.
Nehru told parliament that Beijing issued a note denying aggression and demanding Indian withdrawals from frontier areas. Indian sources said troops may push north to blunt Tibetan Bhutan Sikkim threats and recapture Longju, with force used only in self defense.
