Dverivoji Sto janovic aged 41 fired on police and civilians before turning a .22 carbine on himself after setting his home ablaze. Police, injured by shotgun fire to the legs, pinned him as he killed himself in the paddock near Plover and Swan Streets, with about 40 cars watching along Princes Highway. He died at Geelong and District Hospital.
Dr Evatt warned that without prompt action to resolve the India China border clash armed conflict could erupt. He proposed United Nations conciliation or the International Court of Justice to shape a peaceful settlement with Australia observing developments and urging restraint. Indian PM Nehru said his frontier aims are acknowledged and noted the army chief’s resignation backed by no defense minister withdrawal.
