Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies denounces a press leak about the Government’s plan to buy the American TFX strike bomber. He calls the disclosure tremendously embarrassing and faces questions in Parliament over the decision and cost amid leak accusations.
The TSR-2 bomber, hailed by Britain's Minister of Aviation as the outstanding combat aircraft of the decade, aims for first flight next year and squadron service in 1966 67. It features tree top height flight, long range, and heavy conventional and nuclear bomb capacity, with two Olympus turbojets and rapid production in Britain.
Sir Robert defended the government over the purchase price for the TAX and stated Britain and Australia kept each other informed. He disclosed a cable to Britain explaining the arrangement with America and described press leaks as disastrous while denying opposition claims about the TSR-2.
Mr Downer warned that unless Mr and Mrs Orr leave the country within three days he would consider other measures to compel their departure. Dr Cairns said Downer had simply re instituted an earlier decision and urged a hearing under existing legislation.

Radio operators aboard H M A S Sydney off Hayman Island testified at a Naval Board inquiry about an unconfirmed report of a whaler overturned on October 17 in which five young naval officers were lost. Messages from Hayman Island described a cutter returning and locating the missing boat five miles northwest of Hayman.
In Cooma on Monday a van driven by 43 year old Snowy Mountains Authority worker Thomas K White overturned while passing a broken down car. White was thrown and crushed beneath the van as it rolled several times. Police said he died instantly. Two men were helping push the broken down car from Kosciuszko Road around 11 30 pm when the van swerved and overturned.
The Civil Aviation fire services and local brigades conducted a tank fire exercise at Majura firing range with W Epoff Sydney and T Weinhardt Melbourne officials observing. About 200 gallons of contaminated fuel burned as A B Lindeman coordinated one scene, foam and water subdued the blaze, leading to a larger coordinated exercise later this year including hospital ambulance fire brigade and police.
