Prime Minister Menzies announced in the House of Representatives a special committee will study the economy and prepare a chart of the nation's economic potential. The inquiry aims to furnish information to help set fundamental policy decisions.
The government plans a high freedom inquiry led by Sir John Crawford to study tariff protection, resources and future growth. It will be an expert committee, not a formal royal commission, with aims to inform economic policy and export prospects while balancing limited resources and development hurdles.
