Australia plans high level talks in Canberra next week on building a uranium enrichment plant. Acting Minister Mixon said collaboration with Urenco Centec, a West German Dutch British group, would be explored to develop Australia’s uranium resources. The visitors, Oct 10 to 24, will discuss policies and licences with Deputy Prime Minister Anthony and national resources agencies.
Victorian Premier Hamer urged ACTU to lead eight week power strike talks and resume work. Arbitration Commission proceedings broke down over demands for higher wages, while the government readies essential services measures. Prime Minister Fraser called the dispute Australia’s most serious as unions weigh anomalies conference options.
