Britain accuses the Indonesian government of responsibility for anti-British violence in Djakarta. President Soekarno orders the Army to stand by in the capital amid warnings of further unrest. Indonesian Air Force planes evacuate 145 British residents from Balikpapan.
Indonesian President Sukarno confronts Malaysia as the British embassy riot topics surge. The Japanese Foreign Minister says Tokyo will not mediate, while protests note Britain plans restitution. Indonesian police consider counter revolutionary risks and evacuations include Shell employees' families to Singapore.
Fishermen claim two boats with six men were seized and beaten by an Indonesian gunboat in disputed waters. The crew, said to be Indonesian Chinese bound for Sumatra, landed at Port Swettenham claiming their coaster was burned. Antara reported incidents in Central Celebes and clashes on the Sarawak border with casualties among British troops.
The National Capital Development Commission awarded two contracts totaling £262,907. Leighton Contractors Ltd will build 384 blocks in Curtin including roads and a concrete bridge over Yarralumla with completion by August next year. Ottens Vanderslaeht and Son Pty.
