Comet Near Earth Graces Southern Sky This Week
The Seki Comet, named for its Japanese discoverer on October 11, remains visible in the Southern sky for several nights. Last night it lay about 114 million miles from Earth and will reach closest approach on Friday night at 11 million miles. Mt Stromlo Observatory notes it may be seen three cross lengths below the Southern Cross bottom star as a small hazy patch, with a faint tail visible only in binoculars. A photo by Mr. G.
