Woman's leg amputated after flying roofing iron blast
A Mildura woman, 44, Lola Vale of Irymple, had her leg amputated below the knee after a sheet of roofing iron was driven into her during a Wednesday night storm. Neighbours could not summon an ambulance as phones were out. She was taken to Mildura Base Hospital by private car. surgeons could not save the limb. The Sydney storm also brought brown dust, smoke and fires to suburbs and the Blue Mountains with multiple bushfires reported in Penrith, Windsor, Cranebrook-Londonderry and Wartimoo areas.

Isolated pocket of hurricane winds hits Canberra front
Canberra experienced a isolated turbulent pocket in a general weather front with hurricane force winds. ACT weather bureau director Alan Daw said the cold front formed over the Indian and Southern Oceans south of Western Australia and intensified over the continent. Winds peaked at 66 knots at the airport, averaging 34 to 38 knots, with dust from inland NSW carried ahead by the front.
