Violent gusts hit the Melbourne metropolitan area this afternoon as a cool change moved in. Roofs ripped off trees uprooted and blackouts affected the 30 Tip wind area. A power pole with high tension lines collapsed in Clifton Hill leaving suburbs without electricity for hours. A roof block blew onto a house in Nash Street Glen Iris and Mrs Norg Tully 67 of Davis Avenue South Camberwell was struck by falling branches but crawled free.
