Former Fraud Squad men get 10 years
In Sydney, two ex Fraud Squad detectives Edward J Houghton and Benjamin D Moore, both 46, were each jailed 10 years for conspiracy to pervert justice. They faced a 12 man jury after a 47 day trial for protecting a gang that defrauded country people of about 623000.

Gorton defamation case viewed interview impact debated
In Canberra the ACT Supreme Court heard that Gorton faced little impact from an ABC interview despite claiming injury. J T Hiatt QC for the ABC argued Gorton, who sought 200000 in damages from the ABC and Maximilian Walah, was the “very man most vitally affected” yet could not recall seeing the program. The hearing adjourned for the judge to consider his decision.

Separate court items show Garry John Flint 19 airman at Fairbairn RAAF Base fined $200 and license suspended six months for an offence in Hind Marsh Drive on June 10. Robert Thomas Butt 26 carpenter Torrens Basedow Street fined $200 and license suspended six months for an offence in Bradley Street on June 11 with a breathalyzer 0.170 percent.
