Melbourne inquiry eyes PMG loss for 1975 76
The Postmaster General's Department faces a 120 million dollar loss in 1975-76 as the Royal Commission hearing in Melbourne considers reforms to postal and telecommunication services. The PMG argues that mere price hikes won’t solve the deficit and calls for broader subsidies and tariff flexibility amidst private sector competition. The inquiry, chaired by Sir James Vernon, runs over tomorrow and Friday with submissions detailing costs, tariffs, and potential reorganizations.
