Cootamundra High School captains Daryl Arkins tall and Pamela Collingridge were congratulated by Telopea Park High captains Janette Miller and Bill Graham after Cootamundra was declared winner of sports competitions this week. Daryl holds the Wattle Cup for football and Pamela the Waratah Shield.
British philosopher Professor Alexander MacBeath has been appointed Visiting Professor of Philosophy at the University of Tasmania for 196. He is Emeritus at Queen's University of Belfast and formerly taught Logic and Metaphysics there from 1925 to 1954. He also recently returned to active duty at the University of Edinburgh in Moral Philosophy.
Rashid Aly Cray lant, identified as a leader of the 1941 pro Navi revolution, has been sentenced to hanging for attempting to overthrow General Abdul Karim Kassem's regime. The Bagdad Press reported the coup was planned for December 9, noted Friday.
Sir John Crawford, Secretary to the Department of Trade, will become Director of the Research School of Pacific Studies at the Australian National University and Head of Economics. He will join after release from his current post, likely late this year or early next. The new department focuses on economics of under developed nations and SE Asia relations. Crawford, married with a daughter, studied at the University of Sydney and Harvard, and has long served in Commonwealth government roles. His salary in the new post will be about £5,000 a year.
NASA announced it will purchase 20 pressure suits and air conditioned underwear for Mercury astronauts at about £31,482 total. The Navvy designed suits and Air Force underwear will be used in upcoming space missions.
The New South Wales Miscellaneous Workers Union warns paint and varnish section members not to steal from employers. Police have been called over pilfering complaints, with cases cited of losses in superannuation and long service leave. State secretary D Hewitt says the advice was unanimously endorsed by the executive.
