The Geneva talks lag and observers say a summit may be needed if progress stalls further. Khrushchev and Polish leaders push for a summit while Britain and the U.S. weigh next moves as Nixon visits Moscow and Macmillan shelves a year end meeting.
The Russo Polish declaration ends Khrushchev's Polish visit after Russia rejects the West's plan on Germany and Berlin. U S and France say Groymko dodges key questions about Western rights. Eisenhower keeps open a possible summit while warning against nuclear use. He remains pessimistic about Geneva outcomes.
Rioting spread to Bagdad and the Iraqi capital grew tense as a Daily Telegraph correspondent reported in Beit Tut. Communists reportedly marched on Masbay suburb looting and burning private houses before security forces intervened. Wealthy Iraqis offered large sums for black market plane seats out of the country.
Mount Sutin biyan in Kars Province near the Russian border erupted on Thursday, believed to be Turkey's first volcanic activity since the 7th century. The event occurred in Istanbul area reporting by A. A.P. and Reuters.
Snow follows rain across New South Wales with light snow in the Snowy Mountains and two to three inches of new powder above 5000 feet. Wet snow measured about an inch in Cabramurra and Kiandra. Forecasts call for more snow tomorrow and Saturday as Goulburn returns to normal and floodwaters recede. Police report families back home after flooding subsided.
Prime Minister Menzies said there would be further talks with the parties involved after the conference. No announcement was made.
