Brussels sources say Britain will pursue Common Market membership on terms that honor its Commonwealth promise. President de Gaulle yesterday signaled a firm stand, arguing Britain’s trade policy and cheap food system clash with the market system.

Melbourne report says New South Wales reinsman Jack Leonard Reinyman had a 12 month disqualification for Seottira at the Showgrounds reduced to suspension and shortened to expire on July 15 by the Trotting Control Board. An appeal by Scottira’s owners Mrs A Tipping and Mrs D Hando against the horse’s disqualification was upheld.
Eleanor Loughnan of Rutkandma near Michell shows signs of recovery after ice packing to control temperature and brain oxygen use. An ice plant at Mitchell supplies ice from residents’ refrigerators, aiding treatment. Doctors expect she can rise from bed within about two weeks.
In a press conference after the Bahamas talks with Prime Minister Macmillan, de Gaulle rejected subscribing to the Bahamas agreement and insisted France will maintain national defense. He argued allies are necessary but France will not forgo its own defence autonomy amid new nuclear arms scope.
