Rainstorm Cuts Highway Near Canberra and Lake George

A cloudburst dumped three inches of rain in minutes, washing mud across the Federal Highway linking Canberra with Goulburn and Sydney. A landslide near Lake George 11 miles south of Collector blocked the road, hail came with the thunder, and Canberra recorded 11 rainfall points between 3.40 pm and 9 pm. The road was later cleared and trains were rerouted via Yass adding about 45 miles to the journey. The day’s high reached 90 degrees.

Timber Plant Boom for Tumut and Oberon

Premier Cahill announced over £1 million private investment to build large scale timber plants at Tumut and Oberon.
