Queen Opens World’s Longest Telephone Cable Link
The world’s biggest telephone cable linking Europe with Australia New Zealand Britain and Fiji was opened by the Queen. In a recorded message over the 16 000 mile circuit she called the opening a practical expression of the faith of the Commonwealth in its future. Four Prime Ministers joined the ceremony in an informal “old boy” setting.

Bells Gift To St. John's By Governor-General
The Governor-General Viscount De L Isle will present an eight bell chime to the Church of St John the Baptist as a memorial to Lady De L Isle. The gift, accepted unanimously by church leadership, will be installed during renovations including spire reroofing. Bells cast by J Taylor and Company of Loughborough England will be delivered within six weeks to fit the 1850s tower now housing a single bell.
