D C A Declares War On Airport Birds
The Apertment's annual report shows 85 bird strikes on Australian aircraft in the last financial year. The Department of Civil Aviation plans to spend £30,000 over five years to clear birds at Sydney and other airports with expert help and wildlife division investigations. Methods include shooting, patrols, habitat management, and water hole reductions. Birds are unlikely to damage structures or windscreens, but modern jet engines face serious risk from strikes.
