One hundred thousand marchers, including 9,000 police and National Guardsmen, demonstrated in Washington against racial discrimination. The procession was described as festive but orderly after President Kennedy urged Americans to accelerate equal rights efforts.
About 100000 demonstrators gathered on Washington streets and along Constitution and Independence Avenues to urge Congress to end racial discrimination. The crowd arrived by trains buses airliners and cars, singing We Shall Overcome and Freedom. Speeches at the Lincoln Memorial urged stronger action from the Kennedy administration on employment education and voting.
The Full High Court ruled Mr Davidson had no power to impose certain licence conditions on Sydney TV stations TCN Channel 9 and ATN Channel 7. Only part of his plan was upheld, centering on programmes by other stations beyond 30 miles from Sydney. The PMG sought to bar Sydney stations from blocking Newcastle Wollongong outlets from sharing programmes after a set time.

A Tharwa man Leon Lagner was fined 32 pounds at Cooma Court for assaulting an fisheries inspector and fishing illegally at Lake Eucumbene. The inspector said Lagner slept on the shore with two rods and fought when reels were pulled in. Lagner received 20 pounds for assaulting the inspector 10 pounds for obstructing him in duties and 2 pounds for illegal trout fishing. Trout fishing at Lake Eucumbene is legal year round only with a hand held rod.
The eastern side of the Commonwealth Bridge opening is postponed due to rain. Sealing of approach roads requires dry conditions, with two to three days of fine weather needed before traffic can pass. The National Capital Development Commission will monitor progress and open the bridge as soon as sealing is complete.
