Aust and N Z plan talks ahead of Commonwealth meeting

Australia and New Zealand agreed to hold pre conference talks in London in September to discuss tactics for Britain's bid to join the European Economic Community. They may invite Canada to join and will assess positions if Brussels gives clear proposals. If not clear, a postponement could be considered.

Indonesia to take over West New Guinea by May

Dutch and Indonesian negotiators reached agreement on all essential points for transfer of West New Guinea administration. The deal would place Indonesia in control by next May likely May 30. Foreign Minister Subandrio, in Washington for ten days, will report to President Soekarno.

West New Guinea settlement plan outlined as talks continue

Diplomatic sources describe a Bunker Plan largely retaining U S features for a phased handover over two years to the United Nations then Indonesia. It preserves self-determination for natives and avoids direct Dutch to Indonesian transfer while listing evacuees and aid logistics amid Indonesian paratroop activity and calls for visas and refugee relief.

Two Fettlers Killed in Queanbeyan Narrow Gauge Collision

A train collision between Queanbeyan and Farrer crossing killed William Hompygon and George Hughes and injured several fettlers and crew. The trolley carrying 14 men headed south to Queanbeyan, eight men thrown clear with minor injuries. The crash halted the Sydney Canberra express for two hours as police and Railways investigated.

Permanent site urged for Canberra Ambulance Stations

Mr J R Fraser criticises delays in allotting permanent ambulance sites in Canberra citing need for proper quarters for men and vehicles. Ambulance Superintendent A Grant warns against shifting from one temporary station to another as harm to morale. The A C T Advisory Council urged immediate action by Minister Freeth with possible sites north and south of the lake and a permanent building plan to replace present temporary facilities.

Fraser to host regular TV feature on Canberra station

Mr Fraser will present a six minute weekly feature on CTC7 Canberra airing Sundays just before the film hour. The programme may become the first regular TV show by a member of parliament in the British Commonwealth. He will give a concise political commentary, aiming to inform objectively and let viewers decide their stance.
