In Panama a termite species uses a fungus to attack and soften wood so the insects can feed on the trees. The fungus assists the termites by breaking down the wood, enabling greater consumption.
Mrs. Ida Rinn 82 of Sharp died Wednesday in a Rockdale hospital after a short illness. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at Sharp Presbyterian Church with burial in Sharp Cemetery. William Frank Macek 75 of Barclay near Lott died Wednesday morning in a Temple nursing home after a long illness. Burial Hillcrest Cemetery. Survivors include multiple relatives and pallbearers. Macek born Wesley May 22, 1895. farmer retired seven years ago.

About fifty employees at the Lifetime Doors plant in Hearne are on strike after talks with the Teamsters Union collapsed over a contract. A plant manager said replacements were being hired and production continued despite picket lines as talks failed over withholding union dues from workers’ pay.
