Two White Men Face Murder Indictments in Cameron
Gifford Shuffield and Lee Johnson were indicted for murder in Cameron over Henry Dickerson's death after an assault near the Southern Pacific tracks on July 3 1944. Dickerson, a janitor at First Baptist Church, died July 5 in a local hospital. Johnson faced aggravated assault charges July 4.

Cameron Soldier Reported Missing in Action in France
Sgt. Weldon E. Turner of Cameron is missing in action in France since August 14, a War Department telegram told Cameron residents. Turner, in the army since 1935 and re-enlisted in 1937, served in an infantry unit that took part in the invasion of France. It is feared he may be a prisoner as details are scarce.

H H Coffield of Rockdale has taken over the producing properties and other assets of Lanning & Coffield Inc after foreclosing debt and dissolving the corporation. Pilot Lt Curtis Lowe Returns Home From China War Zone
First Lt. Curtis Lowe, United States Army Air Corps, arrives in Cameron from the China Eastern theatre. The B 17 pilot, with 72 combat missions and Air Medal plus Distinguished Flying Cross, helped destroy hundreds of thousands of tons of Japanese shipping under harsh conditions. The Herald plans a fuller feature on his experiences this week. Mr and Mrs Cage Kennon and their son of Somerville visit Cameron relatives.

Funeral services were held for Dr. Green B. Taylor in Cameron after his death from a heart attack. The 69 year old physician, eye ear nose and throat specialist, formerly of Temple and Beaumont, had practiced in Cameron for decades and is survived by his widow Ida Looney Taylor, son Jack, a granddaughter, and three sisters. Interment followed at Ben Arnold cemetery.

Negro Indicted For Potion Making That Caused Drunkenness
Robert Pain a negro was indicted on three charges by the grand jury for making and selling a potion that produced drunkenness. County attorney Gunn says this is the first illicit drink manufacturing case since repeal. A farmer who drank some was robbed of a rifle after testifying.
