Services Held For Frank Monroe 76 Cameron Resident

Funeral services for Frank Monroe 76 a Cameron resident were held Tuesday at Marek Burns Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Freeman officiating. Monroe a retired farmer born in Cameron and lifelong resident died Sunday in a local hospital. He was a Knights of Pythias member. Survivors include son Dana Monroe and daughter Mrs Hilliard Thomas both of Cameron and four grandchildren. Pallbearers listed.

Dr J C Reese Home Stands As Dignified Cameron Landmark

The Dr J C Reese home at the corner of Travis and 8th in Cameron is described as a quietly dignified, well maintained historic residence with stained glass windows. Built by prominent contractor T M Sapp on Reese addition land, it later passed through family, estate, and ownership changes before being rented to Dr Herman Brown, Cameron elementary principal, while Lester Williams remains the owner.

Three District Court Sentences Handed Down in Milam County

District Judge W. Wallace heard three cases last Wednesday in Milam County District Court. Samuel Morgan of Cameron received a three year prison term for auto theft linked to a May 1965 jail break. Annie Louise Knight of Cameron and Melvin Mitchell of Thorndale each received three year probated sentences for guilty pleas involving a shooting and removal of mortgaged property respectively. Oscar Cook’s death sentence appeal from Marlin is set for October 20 before the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin.

Cameron area to host industrial and tourist development clinic

The Cameron area launches a all-day clinic on developing industrial potential and tourist attractions led by the Texas Industrial Commission. A bus tour, sessions at the Methodist Fellowship Hall, lunch with Rotary and Lions, and a 7 p.m. town meeting feature experts from Texas A&M and Texas Power & Light Company discussing industrial foundations, site feasibility, prospects, and organized approaches. Alcoa Payroll Hits Eight-Year Peak at Rockdale Works

A recent survey shows total employment at Alcoa's Rockdale Works rising to 252 with a combined payroll surpassing 10.5 million dollars. Three Charged In Thorndale Shooting Melee

Three men were charged in Justice of the Peace Jess Brock's court after a Saturday shooting at Meide's Place in Thorndale. Adolfo Flores Jr. and Pete Gomez were released on $1,000 bonds each. Ortiz faced affray charges and was treated for gunshot wounds.

Board Approves Cameron ISD Budget for 1553–66 Year

Cameron Independent School District trustees approved a 593,134 budget for the 1553-66 school year at a public hearing at Ben Milam School. Local taxes provide 23 percent, state funding 69 percent, and the remainder from county, tuition, and other receipts. The budget increases reflect a teacher pay raise of 24,360 and higher costs in instruction, administration, and debt service. Four teachers and additional staff were hired, including Riddesperger, Winchester, Strange, Wilkins, and Connie Cannon in the lunchroom.

Henry Dreyer 73 dies. services held Aug 24 in Cameron

Henry C. Dreyer, 73, longtime Cameron resident, died August 22 at home. Funeral services were held August 24 at Marek Burns Funeral Home with Rev. T. Miller Smith officiating and burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Ft Hood provided full military honors at graveside. Survivors include wife Pearl and several brothers. Pallbearers listed. honorary pallbearers include local Bible class members and American Legion.

Central Texas Symphony forms 17 member board

A new eight county Central Texas Symphony Orchestra Association names a 17 member board of directors. Miss Mary Elizabeth Fox of Georgetown chairs the group formed to sponsor wider area symphonic music. Rehearsals begin October with auditions in September and a meeting in Temple set for September 16 to continue organization.

Cameron Considers New City Airport With State Aid Review

Cameron officials prepare for a 9:30 a.m. Thursday meeting with the Texas Aeronautics Commission to seek state loan and matching funds for an airport project. Mayor Wilson and Councilman Wells lead a 25 member delegation to push for $15,000 in state match and $25,000 in federal aid already approved, plus land acquisition and runway extension plans.
