Shoe Prices Jump as Leather Costs Surge
The Texas Agricultural Extension Service notes that shoe prices rise due to factors beyond cattle hide costs. A cured hide accounted for 61 percent of shoe leather last June, with retailers marking up greatly. Domestic hide prices more than doubled from August 1971 to June 1972 amid strong leather demand and export shifts.

Kubiak Calls Session Productive Despite Insurance Setback
Rep. Dan Kubiak says the called Texas Legislature session was productive despite failing to reach an insurance rate compromise. Laws to be revised under new leadership, a super port project off the Gulf Coast, and a veto of the 11 story highway across from the Governor’s Mansion are noted. The session restored medical benefits to needy Texans and urged Congress to raise the cotton loan limit. A second annual conservation awards supper for the Littler River San Gabriel District is announced with details and ticket info.
