Frost this week finds residents digging potatoes and picking cotton while locals share visits and travels. Numerous mentions show Miss Alda Batey heading to Rosebud for school, families visiting Cameron and Rockdale, and a crowd enjoying a Sunday singing.
Cameron resident Wright Steven Brewer died Monday at 7 30 in the morning at his home after a two week pneumonia illness. He was born April 2 1873 in Austin County and moved to Cameron twenty five years ago. He married Ethel Slocomb January 3 1902 and they had four children, three surviving. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Rev Walter Harbin officiating. Woodmen of the World cared for the remains and interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. Brewer was a Methodist and an active local businessman.
Miss Ruth Coleman of Baylor University in Waco spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas Coleman.
The farmers around Pettibone await a timely rain as social activity continues. Mr Ricehert and family traveled to Bosque County Sunday. C E Ludwig and family shopped in town Monday. Gus Bruder attended the Temple show last Saturday.
Miss Bettie Mowdy and Mr. Wiley Mangum were married Saturday night at the bride’s parents’ home with Rev. B B Blaylock officiating. The couple, long tied by family ties, plan for a San Antonio move after Mangum completes his Army service. A dinner in their honor followed with relatives from both families in attendance.
The first series of the pictures of Christ will be shown Sunday night at 7 45 p m at the Christian church. An English lecture will explain the pictures. Everyone is invited and admission is free. A German service will be conducted in the afternoon at 3 p m by Pastor R C Albert Lutheran.
Mesdames Cochran and C W Lawrence were summoned last week to Boonville Missouri due to their mother’s dangerous illness.
This week at the County Clerk's Office shows marriage licenses issued to W. T. Caldwell and Bernice Self J. J. Dreher and Myrtle Rose lle J. J. Dreher and Myrtle Rose lle Will Noack and Annie Miller W. S. Rose Jr and Mary Maneth Wiley P Mangum and Bettie M Mowdy Marion Halloway and Ethel Miller. Additional records list transfers and parcels across Cameron Milam Milan Maysfield Justo Liendo and John Guthrie grants with amounts from 850 to 8750 dollars and multiple grantees including J A Walston et ux and F C Stiles.
The October cold snap prompts many to seek stove repairs and warm clothing while residents note tax collector Bill Bonds visits. Local trips include Jim Pruett from Cavilla, Morton Harris and son in Rockdale, and several Cameron weekend excursions. Measles are reported in the village and various residents travel for work and family visits.
Mr. J. M. Angell traveled to Wa co on business last week. Mrs. Vaughn visited Mrs. H. Smith one evening. Charlie Hightower and Herman Hawkins returned from Houston where they had been working. Castle of Austin stayed with his daughter C E Angell from Friday to Sunday. Cora Weathersbee spent the weekend in Cameron. Trice Vaughn is seriously ill with a nurse from Temple. Lyon McCall of Yarrelton visited Sunday. Jesse Angell and family visited Branchville Sunday.
The Herald praises its correspondents and plans a future entertainer in Cameron for staff. It aims to recruit additional writers from nearby regions to expand coverage.
Tarver Grove Weekly Tidings notes Rev. W. A. Strickland’s last appointment at Little River Baptist Church as he and his family plan a move to Oklahoma after about fifteen months of service. The column lists local residents visiting, shopping, and traveling to Cameron, Calvert, Temple, San Antonio, Waco, and other nearby towns, with multiple references to family groups, schooling, and community activities.

Frost has damaged bottom land crops while upland crops suffer from lack of rain. Feed for stock is scarce for residents. Local residents and visitors include Mrs. Atkinson and children, Mr. Leo Wilkerson showing an Overland car, Mrs. Newton returning from Austin, Miss Cornelius McGuire, Mrs. J H Sapp visiting her mother Mrs. Mayes, and Amos and Armory Lindsey from Alabama visiting relatives. Rall y Day at Presbyterian church featured a well done program.
The Red Cross Auxiliary of Ben Arnold invites all to a 42 benefit party at the High School auditorium on Friday night October 1. Event aims to raise funds and all are welcome to attend.
Rosebud and Mr and Mrs John Stewart of Calvert spent Sunday with Mr H C White and family as his illness continued. Attending at his bedside were Pat White Jim White and Mrs Sallie Griffin from Saratoga. The Gibson Gin Co faculty hosted an oyster supper last Tuesday night where the good roads topic drew speakers T S Henderson Cameron Van Tyson D Baker Calvert Revs Strickland and Saddler plus Jeff T Kemp.
