Dr. Clifford G. Swift left Cameron for Rochester Minnesota to attend the Mayo Bros Clinic for two weeks in the school of medicine and surgery. Mrs. Swift will stay in Chicago a few days before joining him later. He plans to return to his Cameron office by October 27.
L H Houston 53 of Buckholts died in a local hospital at 8 30 a m Tuesday after months of kidney infection. He was born October 12 1888 in Milam County and lived in Buckholts all his life. Funeral services are set for 3 30 p m Wednesday at Marek Burns Funeral Home with burial in North Elm Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Mrs Della Houston nine children brothers Will Walton Sam and others and two sisters.
Fear was expressed that Cameron may not get the proposed new bridge across Little River nor realize construction of Highways 77 and 36 this or next year. Only highways designated as military routes will be built, and steel for the bridge may be scarce under new defense priorities. A war would delay all projects, cutting Cameron off from interstate traffic.
The CYO held its regular meeting Tuesday night at 7 30. Officers were elected for the coming year with terms to begin in November. Elected are Truet Chambers as President Catherine Michalka as Vice President Mildred Michakla as Secretary and Loretta Polansky as Treasurer.
Boots Frazier of Austin spent the past weekend with his family, enjoying time together and catching up on local news and activities.
Six people injured at the North Travis and West 23rd streets intersection, with Howard Lawson of Buckholts listed as critically injured and others sustaining various injuries. The collision involved a Model A Ford and a station wagon. lights and traffic signals cited as hazards needing improvement. The incident occurred during a drive toward a Cameron Georgetown football game.
Louie Cohen, critically injured weeks ago by a hand truck in a local store, was taken by ambulance to Cameron Hospital on Tuesday for an X-ray of a fractured hip. He is slowly improving and hopes to be up in a few weeks. Bill Morrison and Joe Horelica are in Temple on business today.
Howard Lawson 18 died at Cameron Hospital after a Friday October 10 crash at 23rd Street and North Travis three blocks from the Cameron-Georgetown football field. He was Buckholts High School senior class president and a Buckholts football squad member. Funeral services are set for Friday at 4 p.m. in Cameron with internment at Oak Hill Cemetery. He is survived by his parents three sisters and several relatives.
Mrs. J. M. Copley and her sister Mrs. Eva Nelson of Willington California arrived Saturday for a two week visit with Cameron friends. Copley once lived in Cameron with her late husband and now resides in California. Her daughter Jeannett Copley attends Cleveand High School in Ohio staying with a cousin. Cameron residents welcome the return visitor.
Criminal District Attorney W A Morrison wins 19 convictions no suspended sentences at September term. Burglary and theft dominate the docket with juries approving penalties from 10 days to 4 years. Several sentences run concurrently and may be reduced by half for multiple verdicts.
An additional employee under the State Department of Public Welfare for Milam county is authorized. An exam will be held at 2 p m on Monday October 27 at the Court House in Bryan. Applications must reach Miss Harriet Moore of Bryan by Wednesday October 25. Blank forms are available at the local Relief Office from Mrs Mary Green. Qualification requires two years of college or equivalent social work training. Duties mirror those performed by Mrs Green.
Funeral services for 77 year old Frank Heil, who died in Temple Hospital after a car overturn near Rosebud on Highway 53, will be held at Ocker church. He lived near Rogers since 1908 and is survived by two daughters Albina and Annie. The Marek Burns Funeral Home of Cameron directs arrangements.
Miss Lena Elizabeth Bounds of Rockdale and Ben J. James of Waco were united in marriage Tuesday afternoon as Judge Jeff T. Kemp read the vows. The bride was reared in Rockdale and the groom has lived in Waco for some time. they plan to reside there.
Thomas E. Chandler of Cameron has finished recruit training at the U S Marine Corps Base San Diego and will be assigned to a Marine unit. He earned Sharpshooter with rifle and Expert with bayonet during training. Born in Cameron May 38 1919 he joined July 25 and attended Yee High School where he played football.
Frank Krenek, born October 8 1950, dies after a fall at Industry. Funeral services were held in Wallis at the Catholic Church with interment in Industry Catholic Cemetery. He was a farmer and stockman, survived by wife Catherine Lietz and fourteen children.
Rudolph Miller 55 died at 8 39 a m at his Liberty home on Wednesday October 15 1941 Funeral services by Marek Burns Funeral Home will be from Liberty Church at 4 30 p m with burial in Liberty Cemetery He was survived by six children including his widow Ray Miller Mattie Belle Reese Doris Elliott Miller Thelma Miller Billie George Miller and Curtis Miller all of Liberty Also four sisters and three brothers John Miller Henry Miller Will Miller Mrs Annie Tyler Mattie Malone Dora Turmer and Mrs Polly Butler and four grandchildren

City funds cover business poisons while residents pay up to 20 cents per pound for bait. Red Squill used in homes only. orders due by Friday October 24 with distribution set for Wednesday October 29. Committees from service clubs to assist health unit and arrange house contacts before ordering deadline.

J. B. Lane a 17 year old Milano boy who does not mind arrest by metropolitan police but dislikes being nabbed by small town officers is at liberty again after escaping the Gatesville Reformatory at 5 p.m. Wednesday This is his second escape and local officers had earlier arrested him near Hearne on the highway after a prior break and now believe he will likely not return home.
Parishioners of St. Monica's Catholic Church prepare a sandwich supper and entertainment for Sunday October 19 at 4 p m. A carnival atmosphere will be created with temporary stands and a program of games and prizes for all attendees.
Veterans meet Ben Milam Post 2010 to celebrate three years with a supper at Moore's Cafe. The Post organized on October 19, 1988. P. W. Davis received a Post Commander's Badge. Dr. John Denson was elected to lifetime Post membership.
