The Cameron Herald presents a three day Motion Picture Cooking School in late October for home makers. Lessons cover measuring mixing and blending ingredients for pies frozen desserts and salads plus fabric laundering and healthy child meals. Real kitchens will show step by step preparation with close ups and full color finished dishes.
Canvass for funds for the Community Chest will begin on Monday October 24. Albert Collins named chairman for the 1938 drive. Benefits include Cameron Welfare Board Boy Scouts Child Welfare Board Milk Fund Girl Scouts Mexican Day Nursery and Colored Day School Nursery. Chest committee will meet soon to plan canvass.
Football fans headed to Caldwell for Friday night’s game are urged to eat their supper aboard the special train. The Band Parents Association runs the concessions offering sandwiches hamburgers and cold drinks to riders and spectators.
Robert Sloan Ryan won the singles title at Cameron's inaugural tournament defeating Laird from Yoe High in three sets. He teamed with Bill Wallace to take the doubles crown over Lesiker and Gamer, also from Yoe High, in three sets. The event aims to become an annual Milam County affair with entry fees and prize money for winners.
Coach L C Wood praises Cameron Theatre for a scholarship award and outlines qualities for voters. He stresses teamwork, leadership, clean living, and selflessness as key to the most valuable player, citing a 1936 regional championship team at Yoe High and noting co operation as the true measure of value.
The General Board of the Methodist Orphan's Home convened in Waco on September 27 and 28. Twelve members attended, reporting a prosperous year with debts reduced and property improvements valued at over 14000 dollars. The home cares for about four hundred children and Texas Conference delegates attended.
In district court last Thursday the trial of Francisco Martinez, among several defendants in marijuana cases, produced a hung jury. Hensley vs Hensley land suit to be tried November 14. Albert Arnold named school trustee at Davilla by County Board of Education on October 3.
Elwood Birkelbach Vogelsang school teacher will speak at First Methodist Church Cameron on Sunday morning October 9 according to Rev Coy Williams pastor Birkelbach a Southwestern University Georgetown graduate is considering entering the Methodist ministry and will deliver the sermon invites all to attend.
Milam County Board of Education adopted a resolution demanding Citizens National Bank stop charging fifty cents for each teacher salary voucher cashed. Cameron banks also assess exchange on out of city checks and a minimum twenty five cents on state warrants. The board argues eight percent interest covers salary timing and no extra deductions should occur. Resolution released on orders of E. B. Phillips of Rockdale.
Mrs Jeff T Kemp gave a detailed history of Cameron and Milam County before the Rotary Club. She announced the Cameron Herald will publish the paper and a small booklet will be sold. Judge Jeff T Kemp attended as guest and praise for preserving local history was voiced.
Citizens National Bank replies to Milam County Board of Education and the Commissioners Court over a small charge for handling teachers pay vouchers. The bank, as depository for school funds, offers to meet and discuss the arrangement developed years ago. W Newton, vp, condemns the resolution as unfair and lacking hearing.
Walter Fuchs former commissioner from Yarrellton visited Cameron on Monday to discuss regional matters and community concerns with local officials.
The Herald will publish a multi part series next week covering Milan county’s 1939 budget. The extensive document will run over several weeks and highlight how the county government operates with a general fund income not exceeding $40 000. The paper aims to detail financial setup and provide an intimate view of local government.

A historical church notice lists Sunday School at 9 45 and preaching services at 7 30 p m at the Baptist church with times shown in a brief timetable style.
Coach Wood's 1938 Yeomen, already with two wins including a 6–0 Friday night victory over Calvert, prepare for the annual Cameron Caldwell game. A special Santa Fe train, leaving Cameron at 6 20 p m and returning after 11 05 p m, will carry more than 500 fans with tickets at sixty five cents. The Cameron Band will offer cold drinks aboard.
Cameron will not benefit from a street paving project as the city cannot finance its share due to low property values and a tax rate at the constitutional limit. Lack of public interest and council enthusiasm hinder bidding for Federal funds. A pending water system purchase deal may delay any other program until that issue is settled.
Cameron Rotary Club program chairman Mose G. Cox says Charles E. Buaughman, former grand counselor of the Knights of Pythias in Texas, will speak at the Rotary luncheon on Wednesday October 12.
