Jail Break Fails As Baumgardner Is Silenced

Sheriff Max Kennedy foiled Charles A. Baumgardner during a jail escape attempt. Authorities report Baumgardner tried to pry bricks from a wall with a flat instrument around eleven o clock. He was moved to another cell and later transported to Huntsville. He is 18 and was sentenced to ten years for burglary.

Baby Hill, cafe owner, faced in district court with attorneys seeking a habeas corpus writ to post bond after being indicted in the fatal shooting of night watchman George Richards at 1 a.m. on September 22. Judge Gillis set a Wednesday hearing. bond of 812,500 was approved Wednesday afternoon.

Counterfeiters Are Taken In Rockdale

Three men including S Brumbelow and John H Dees of Rockdale and carnival man C W Dozier were arrested over the weekend by Constable W Colvin of Rockdale for making counterfeit money. The suspects were taken to Austin for custody.

National Youth Administration Funds Aid for Milam County Students

The National Youth Administration offers grants for single men and women aged 16 to 25 lacking funds for textbooks meals and transport to attend school from fall term to June 30 1966. Eligibility includes age single relief family member status high grade work and lack of other aid. Aid up to six dollars monthly and applications must be filed by October 12 1935 with the County Superintendent Milam County has 40 slots and blanks available at school offices.

The Burlington road district plans an 11 mile lateral road upgrade and a $16,000 bond election within 50 days. Works Progress Administration approval was announced via telegram from Congressman Cross, with contract awaiting presidential signature. Howard Terry Steers Longhorns as Right Tackle

Howard Terry, captain and full back from the Yoenen team of 1038, starts for the University of Texas against A. & I. Coach Jack Chevingy praises Terry as tough, mean, and the best right tackle on the squad. He switched from center to tackle this fall and earlier played tackle in junior days. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Terry.
