North Fork Dam work near Georgetown proceeds with utility relocation and land acquisition totaling 6,300 acres required. Government plans include embankment, spillway, outlets and storage totals with costs slated at 700 thousand.
Secretary Earl L. Butz announced the 1973 Upland Cotton Program via the county ASCS office. It sets a national base acreage of 10,000,000 acres, no cropland set aside, a production goal of 12,075,000 standard bases, and a preliminary 15 cent per pound payment rate. The 1973 loan rate remains 19.5 cents per pound. Elimination of the set aside frees about 2 million acres for other crops. signup will occur at local ASCS offices with dates to be announced.
Buckholts Rural High School schedules its annual carnival in the school gym starting 6 p.m. on Tuesday November 25. The event features a chili supper bingo games and various game stands with concessions. Public exhibits will be provided by Boy Scout Troop Buckholts and the 1st Cavalry Division Fort Hood.
Friends of the Library ask for shiny tin can lids and bottoms to decorate an Ecology Christmas tree on library grounds. Lids gathered by Boy Scout Troop 752 will be strung and placed by TP&L workers. return by November 28 to Miss Christine Laws.
