After inquiry county officials report funds for the local committee on United Charities are very low. A reply to Judge W G Gillis includes a letter and twenty eight checks totaling 140 dollars for the fund.
Letter from W G Gillis to Cameron Herald requests a charity fund drive for the United Christian Workers known as United Charities. He notes depleted finances as winter burdens rise and pledges a $5.00 donation for home relief, urging local response to aid needy women and children in Cameron.
The Herald urges at least 100 citizens firms and clubs to donate 5.00 each to match the commendable act of Judge Gillis. The effort follows completed Liberty bond issues and United War Work quotas and seeks to spread Christmas cheer to Cameron's needy. Mail checks to The Herald or call for a pickup.
The Cameron area learns John Brock will serve as agent for the Texas Oil Company staying in Cameron and selling oils gasoline and lubricants. He promises hustling effort and community goodwill while beginning his new venture.
All members of the Cameron Community Council of Defense are summoned to a Nov 21 meeting in the district courtroom. The president orders attendance due to important business to transact and urges every member to be present.
Citizens must install mail receptacles and clearly display house numbers by December 15 to qualify for free home delivery. Postmaster Ed F. English notes street signs and visible numbers on every corner, with pickup points on porches accessible to carriers.
A large union Thanksgiving service is planned for next Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Baptist church. The program will include music talks and two special sermons by Brother McFadyen, inviting all community members to join regardless of church or creed. A committee asks local businesses to close for the hour. Everyone is invited.

He notes victory and peace bring a new day of justice over force and urges national prayers, divine guidance, and gratitude for blessings, peace, and renewed duties. The proclamation is dated November 16, 1918 in Washington DC.
L M Hewett of Navasota led the 17th district food program, inspiring wheatless periods that cut 17 million pounds of wheat to aid the war. He praised Cameron firms for weekly bulletins guiding customers, while Cameron Commercial Club outlined new civic and road plans.
Cameron High School defeated Rosebud High School 53 to 0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Cameron squad executed sweeps and two of three passes completed, with standout play from Atkinson Denson Epperson Peel Adams Parma and Burke. Officials were Coleman U A M Casey Baylor Shaw. Rosebud’s party included coach John Johnson and captain Raleigh Self among teachers and supporters.
Mr. T Harris living on the Minor place at Tracy underwent a mastoid operation about twelve days ago and left for home yesterday. He remained in a room with beds in Dr Taylor's suite adjoining his office where he received care for his operative recovery.
Milam County Commissioners Court adjourns to December 2 to administer oaths for new county officials, bonds pending approval, with L L Blaylock already serving as sheriff after resignations. The lineup includes Gillis, Wolf, Yates, Blaylock, Woolley, Alex Bonds, Baskin, Chadwick, Walker, Reeves, Butts, Phillips, Alborn, Nabours, and Sens.
The Milam County Red Cross Chapter elected its executive committee in Cameron and across the county. Eleven board members were chosen from a ticket of 22 names. Polls at the old post office building saw lively voting throughout the day as results indicated a large turnout.
