An industrialist urges American business to shift focus from buying power to selling power arguing that mobilizing salesmen can spark dormant credit and revive markets. He cites practice from two national manufactures and calls for a national selling campaign. The piece notes improving times, rising consumer spending, and a hopeful outlook as winter approaches.
No arrests had been made as of late Wednesday after a Saturday night robbery at the R. L. Batte store near the Batte Industries in Cameron. Sheriff Kennedy suspects the robbers were transients who fled on a night freight.
Future Farmers Poultry Show in Cameron opens Thursday November 19 and goes to Saturday night with judging Friday. The event in the Mauritz Baldwin building is directed by E I Parnell superintendent John William Baldwin secretary and C E Woodum assistant. Fifty five departments of vocational agriculture invited open to all breeders with emphasis on Future Farmers. Poultry from twelve counties expected. Prizes total include cash awards for top breeding stock market poultry and eggs plus special boys awards and grand champion honors. Coops supplied birds cared for free and no entry fee required. Show open Friday and Saturday night.
Charles F. Green Cash Grocery announced the installation of a new Victor vegetable counter this week. The steel enamel counter includes a sprinkler system to keep produce fresh and sanitary under all conditions. Green says the store is now modernly equipped to handle foods.
The D A R in Cameron announced Tuesday that undernourished children needing meals were financed at the Ada Henderson Cafeteria. The local chapter contributed five dollars to support the effort.
The Episcopal Church schedules Morning Prayer and a sermon at 11 o’clock on Sunday morning, November 22, inviting congregants to attend.
In his first Yoemen football season Gerick emerged as a key playmaker for Coach Wood. He started every game including the Caldwell scoreless draw and the Belton clash, showcasing versatility as a basketball star and state Pentathlon winner, among the brightest college prospects in recent years.
The Ninth U S Infantry recruitment drive at Fort Sam Houston expands with a recruiting office in the federal building Temple and a special representative visiting Cameron on Saturday and Monday. Men 18 to 35 with no dependents urged to enlist. the unit is a 100 year old regiment with over 120 engagements and multiple World War I citations.
The Yoemen win the District 26 B title with 124 points against foes and a flawless goal line. Taylor finishes second after a single loss to Cameron while Belton trails with a one and a half game deficit. Belton and Rockdale square off Friday. Mrs. Bill Mennis of Dallas visits her mother Mrs. Tom Denson in town.
A 15 year old guard weighing 145 pounds from Dallas entered Yee High School this September. He attended Colonial Grade School and played one quarter on the B team last year. As a sophomore he is expected to be a valuable line player next year.
Coach Carroll Wood announced a non conference game for Wednesday night in Cameron as the Yoemen, fresh off a District title, prepare to face Waco Subs on November 26 with season tickets valid for this clash. The Bi-District date against Mart is unsettled due to the undecided district title.
Old Santa Claus returns to Cameron Texas on December 4 at 3 p.m. He will be joined by Teto and Latico clowns Jantbo the elephant Happy the clown tiger and Little Red Riding Hood to greet boys and girls.
In a hard fought district 26 B contest, the Yeomen prevented Belton from scoring while producing no offense of their own. Earl Peck and Dero Underwood sparked the attack as Harry Hughes stepped in for the injured Clifford Guess and delivered a standout performance. A tense defensive battle featured penalties and clutch plays, ending with a 0 0 tie.
Cameron's first poultry judging contest occurs Friday November 20 as part of the Central Texas FFA show. Fifteen teams are expected with invitations extended within 50 miles. The Mauritz Baldwin Poultry Cup will go to the winning team, judged by Rhode Island Reds Barred Rocks and White Leghorns, plus egg judging and a 20 question exam. results announced at 2 30 p m.
Dedicatory ceremonies for Bryant Station Marker set for 2 p m Sunday November 29 at Bryant Station bridge. Descendants of founder Benjamin F Bryant will host with Hon Dallas A Blankenship delivering address. Milam County pioneers to attend unveiling of a marker honoring Bryant Station Pioneer Village and trading post history.
Rev J Coy Williams announced a one day preaching mission at Austin Avenue Methodist church in Waco on November 24 for all churches. Noted American ministers are expected to attend. Mrs H L Patillo visited Fort Worth last week.
Progress reported on the Cameron Community Chest drive with many contacted donors pledging or considering. Those not yet pledged are urged to give promptly to fund care for the needy and support those secure against need.
Chevrolet unveils 1037 passenger cars in two series Master and Master De Luxe. Both series share safety plate glass and new diamond crown speedline styling. Master De Luxe adds knee action suspension at no extra cost, while Master models offer semi-elliptic fronts.
Cameron churches announce participation in the National Preaching Mission from November 29 to December 6. Each Sunday pastors conduct services locally. Monday to Saturday union services run 7:30 nightly at the Methodist church with a different speaker each evening. Subjects to be announced next week.
