Cameron school board interviews two for tax collector post

The Cameron board interviewed two residents Charlotte Rogers and Lanny French for the tax assessor collector position to be vacated December 1 by Theo Aschenbeck. No decision was reached. The board accepted resignations from Betty Harmon and Forrest Guess effective January 7 and accepted Aschenbeck’s resignation. A textbook committee was formed with multiple members and will be advised by the superintendent and principals.

Edward O Schiller Jr Dies Local Cameron Pharmacist

Funeral services were held for Edward O Schiller Jr 57 Cameron pharmacist owner of E O Schiller Drug Store. He died Sunday while returning from a fishing trip and was pronounced dead on arrival at Temple hospital. He was a WWII veteran and active in the Knights of Columbus Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Surviving are his wife Marie and four sons Larry Richard Bobby and Michael with two grandchildren.

Marlin Man Sentenced for Killing Deputies in 50 Year Term

Milam County to Issue 92.5 Million in Alcoa Bonds

Milam County commissioners adopt a resolution to issue 212 million in revenue bonds to Alcoa for an environmental control project at Rockdale Works. The funds will finance the Alcoa 446 System to remove pollutants from furnace exhaust. Site work has begun, with completion slated for January 1978. Bonds and expenses are to be reimbursed by Alcoa. no tax money will be used.

Lone Star Gas seeks Buckholts rate increase to 8 percent

Lone Star Gas filed for an 8 percent return in Buckholts, predicting a $2.46 monthly rise for an 8 MCF bill. Grady Allen said 1975 Buckholts system earned 4.92 percent and $3.136 million is needed to cover revenue deficiency amid inflation and unrecovered gas costs.
