County Agent Bill McCutchen reports rains came too late to ease county agriculture. Drought damaged cattle operations with only about half the normal hay harvest. Some grazing forage exists but will stop after the first frost. many cattlemen have sold or culled stock and expect more moves to market as prices dip now and rise in spring for replacement stock.

Year round Texas motor vehicle registrations begin January 1 1978

Texas motorists will see year round registrations starting January 1 1978 with monthly expirations instead of all April 1 renewals. The change aims to cut long lines at county tax offices and will be preceded by mailed application forms after Christmas as part of System 78 by the Motor Vehicle Division.

Mama Ella Staten Celebrates 100th Birthday in Gause

Mrs Ella Staten of Gause marked her 100th birthday on November 5 with about 250 guests at her daughter Etta Washingtons home. President Carter and other officials sent greetings as did state leaders and Gov Dolph Briscoe. Staten mothered eight children and remains active in Zion Hill Baptist Church and charitable work.
