Dinner is High Spot for Men at Armistice Day Events

At a regular American Legion meeting plans for the Armistice Day celebration were discussed. Tickets for the noon Saturday dinner are on sale, with support welcomed from the public. The parade begins at 10:30 Saturday morning from Cameron, ending with a salute before the Court House, followed by a rodeo and dance at Lawless Green Athletic field and a church service at St. Monica's. District leaders Carl Mason and Jess Thompson will attend the banquet.

Santa Fe Special For Yoemen Tiger Game In Belton

A Santa Fe special train to Belton for the Yoemen versus Tiger football game on Friday November 10 will depart Cameron at 6 20 p m stop at Buckholts for passengers and return from Belton at 10 30 p m The round trip fare is 60 cents The Band Parents Association will offer sandwiches and cold drinks aboard the train Cameron fans are urged to ride the special with the band making the trip as usual and the entire community urged to attend.

Tickets Sold Aboard Santa Fe Special for Belton Game

Belton football game tickets will be sold aboard the Santa Fe Special. J. R. Hays of the Athletic Council announced the arrangement to ease field entry. One hundred seats are reserved for the Cameron band, a change from two years ago when the band had no reserved seating and stood on the sidelines.

Milam County School Buses Found Poorly Equipped

Inspectors led by Hugo Horstmann reviewed 36 of Milam county buses used for rural and high school transport. Defects included missing windshield wipers lights horns fire extinguishers first aid window guards muffler exhaust emergency doors school bus signs and adequate brakes. 5 drivers lacked chauffeur licenses. A recheck is planned for December 2 to ensure compliance.

Memorial Service Honors Guy T. Newton Educator

A large audience at First Presbyterian Church heard tributes to Guy T. Newton a Milam County educator and public instruction leader who died in Cameron on September 5. Speakers Judge W G Gillis L A Woods and Dr H J Ettlinger praised his heritage modest life and lasting influence on students and teachers.

Aged farmer takes own life amid farm losses

Mrs. Kolba reported her husband showed worry over farm losses and fund strain from conservation terrace changes. He left the lunch table, then shot himself in the left breast with a .38 pistol, kneeling before a dresser and dying within minutes.

Farm resident Kolba dies at 78 in Cameron

Mr. Kolba born in Europe came to the United States young and lived in Burlington before buying a North Elm farm in 1906. Funeral services were held Monday at the residence with Rev. McCrary. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery in Cameron, with Yarrellton Masonic Lodge in charge at the grave. He is survived by his widow, two sons Ed Kolba and Willie Kolba, and three daughters Mrs Vince Marék, Mrs Bob Clements, and Mrs Ola Kolba Sneed.

Waymon Jenness Dies After Long Illness at 27

Waymon Jenness 27 died at his mother Ida Jenness home in Cameron at 3 30 p m Wednesday November 8 1939 after over 48 hours in critical condition. Dr T Leland Denson said illness included high blood pressure with heart and kidney ailment and coma for more than two days. Funeral 2 30 p m at First Baptist Church with Rev W M Cloyd officiating, interment Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by mother Ida Jenness and brother Clifton Jenness.

A large pep rally and bonfire will be held at City Park at 7 p.m. announced by Yoa High School pep squad leaders. A snake dance procession will move through main streets, followed by the Yeomen Tiger game in Belton Friday with a special Santa Fe train for fans.
