Ag Policy No Island Says Ag Economist
Dr. Ronald Knutson told an Agribusiness Seminar in Houston that agricultural policy is no longer an isolated issue as outside groups gain influence. He cited food as a foreign policy tool and a dollar stabilizer, with rising consumer activism shaping future policy. He outlined four farm program concerns including domestic involvement, flexible commodity coverage, and the impact of labor and consumer groups. He noted international diplomacy roles, cautioned about Russia talks, and highlighted the Farm Bill fight and food stamp politics amid the 1970s budget. Lettuce arrival and family farming traits conclude the piece.
