Cameron Commercial Club hosts O. A. Ryfle of Waco for a decisive gathering. A unanimous pledge backs the Central Texas Interurban line and a three-man committee starts work on right-of-way and preliminary costs. Ryfle receives honorary life membership.
Cameron marks Armistice Day with a homecoming for Milam County World War Veterans on November 11 1919 at 10 30 am at the Court House. Veterans are urged to wear uniforms and attend a countywide event featuring a Cameron vs Mart High School football game and ample refreshments.
Co. P. Wilkerson of Wilkerson Brothers attended the district Overland Dealers meeting in Waco this week. Factory representatives reported that time is near when dealers can have all the new Overland Four Wonder Cars they want.
Washington October 29 1919 report shows 25 625 bales of cotton ginned in Milam County from 1919 crop up to October 18, compared with 35 360 bales by October 18 1918. Director Sam L Rogers signs the note.
Judge C S Lattimore of Austin will speak at the Baptist Church next Sunday morning at 11 on The Baptist 75 Million Campaign. Pastor B B Blaylock invites the public to hear the distinguished judge discuss the campaign issues.
Mr. Ryfle praised Cameron as he left town at 12:20 noting the welcome was the best possible. Two potential Interurban routes were outlined, one from Waco via Falls county to Marlin then Milam county, the other from Temple linking with Austin and San Antonio. Preliminary surveys will decide the preferred path to pull business toward Cameron and extend connections north toward Waco.
A South Texas health officer warns that polluted alleyways breed flies and filth, urging residents to fund sewer systems to cut illness by half and boost city desirability. The plea notes sparkling water can still hide typhoid germs and emphasizes investing a few dollars in sanitation saves lives.
Milam County Sheriff L L Blaylock reports Joe Henry of Minerva and J T Howard of Yarrellton among 20 top corn producers honored at the Dallas Fair. Scholarships valued at 200 dollars each will cover nine months at A and M College or junior colleges, with credits and ROTC benefits noted. Bolton, indicted for embezzlement in 1917, was captured in Denver after a long manhunt. Sheriff Blaylock plans requisition papers for extradition and return to Milam.
Weldon Caldwell of Rockdale Route 3 earned a commendable placing at the Dallas meeting in the Stock Judging contest. He persuaded Mr Banzai to permit his entry among 175 boys, finishing in the nth position.
The Texas Cotton situation warned by Commissioner F C Weinert and R L Batte. Wet ginned cotton causes severe losses to growers with discounts reported from $15.60 to $25 per bale and even higher, up to $60 or $100 per bale in some cases. Ginners urged to cease ginning wet cotton to protect farmers and themselves.
Joseph D. O Neill aged 31 died Tuesday at 1 15 am in a local sanitarium after a brain hemorrhage. He will lie in state at the Knights of Columbus hall before burial in Burlington with funeral from St Michael s church led by Father O Reilly. O Neill, a Burlington native and St Basil s College graduate, worked for Central Texas National Bank Waco City Waterworks and government posts at Camp McArthur and Del Rio. He recently improved but never returned to work, came from Burlington last Saturday, and suffered a brain hemorrhage at the Cotton Palace. He died after last rites, described as a model Catholic with strong faith and loyalty. The Waco Times Herald obituary note will be read with sadness by friends in Cameron and Milam counties. He was son of J T ONeill, pioneer teacher and current vice president of the State Bank at Burlington. A large Cameron contingent attended the Burlington funeral Wednesday morning.
M E Greenway, formerly with Thaabhahatieevy Motor and recently with Paige Motor Car Company in Wichits Falls, returns to Cameron as general mechanic and inspector. Chambers Hefley secure his services. friends welcome his return to a good town.
Dr. T. G. Van Zandt, who previously lived in Cameron and volunteered during the war, announces he will locate permanently in the town. He will have an office above Geo. A. Thomas Drug Store with Dr. Ellora Monroe, and friends are glad to welcome him back.
An advisory urges farmers to store seed cotton in dry conditions to protect it from weather, prevent damage during ginning, and avoid spotted samples from bleaching. Properly conditioned cotton reduces seed loss due to heating in wet storage.
