The Cameron Theatre debuts the Jack Benny musical Artists and Models next Sunday featuring Benny Ida Lupino Gail Patrick Richard Arlen Ben Blue Judy Canova Martha Raye Connie Boswell Louis Armstrong Swing Orchestra and Andre Kostelanetz Orchestra. Benny stars and voices weekly coast to coast. Lupino Patrick and Arlen have long television guest credits. Canova is the popular hillbilly comedian and Boswell Sisters provide radio songs. Raye is known as the Ultra Violent Raye and Kostelanetz and his Orchestra are a regular weekly feature.
Austin announces a statewide American Legion membership push beginning November 6 led by Dr W J Danforth and district commanders. Governor Allred designates November 7–13 as American Legion Week urging World War veterans to join the organization.
Fontana veteran Ralph C. Swanson may receive $17,500 after a chain letter he sent to former comrades of Company B 345th Machine Gun Battalion 90th Division led to Henry C. Dreyer in Cameron discovering evidence tying Swanson’s wartime injuries to a French hospital stay. Swanson was gassed in France and lost an eye. Dreyer, a company bugler, kept papers from officers and helped Swanson’s claim.
The second annual Central Texas FFA poultry show closed with Raymond C. Lee of Waco naming the grand champion male for a White Leghorn. Fuchs Bros. of Buckholts won the female champion and pen championship for Rockdale entrant T. R. Lorenz. White Leghorns led with over 150 birds. many breeds showed strong entries.
The Episcopal Church invites worshippers to Sunday evening services with Evening Prayer and a sermon at 7:30 o'clock on November 8. The event emphasizes reflective liturgy and congregational prayer in a formal service setting.
A special Santa Fe train will run from Cameron to Belton on November 12 to carry fans to the Tiger Yoemen game. The train departs Cameron at 6 10 p m and reaches Belton at 7 20 p m with arrival scheduled around kickoff.
Cameron Yoemen will travel to Mexico City in 1939 announced by publicity director Chas M Hicks. Arrangements are pending as the Athletic Council receives the proposal from Coach Wood. the American Foundation School of Mexico City will play the Yoemen in 1938 with a return visit planned in 1939.
Cameron Banks will be closed on Thursday November 11 in observance of the holiday. Banks close each year for this occasion and will reopen for business on Friday.
Postmaster John R. Hays announces a local census of the unemployed in Cameron and surrounding area. Census blanks will be distributed November 16 and must be returned by November 20 to forward data to Washington for Roosevelt’s anticipated law proposals. Mayor Charles C. Smith names a citizen committee to assist as cooperation is urged for a four day completion.
Wallace N. Davis has been made distributor for the Duncan Coffee Company in Cameron selling Admiration and Bright and Early Coffee. He succeeds Bryan Nimsk now with H. J. Heinz in Beaumont territory and has been in Cameron for one month. Davis expressed appreciation for the reception and is living at the Right.
The World War I era poem recalls memory of the dead and duty. It speaks of crosses in trenches, larks in the sky, and a call to hold the torch against the foe. The speaker urges the living to honor fallen soldiers and not break faith.
