Mr and Mrs J Slaughter and children along with Mrs G A Pleatl and her mother Mrs T W Boykin spent Sunday in Mart visiting Mr and Mrs J W Boykin.
J B Kemp 21 died at Cameron Hospital after a typhoid fever and double pneumonia. Funeral services were held in Dallas with pallbearers from Cameron. He had attended Oak Cliff High School and Southern Methodist University. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Dallas.
The Beat 5 gathering in Sharpe featured Judge Gillis FE Wallace and T S Henderson Jr as they urged loyalty to the Democratic ticket led by Governor Smith and Senator Robinson. Wallace recalled Bryan era while Gillis condemned the Republican record. The rally urged turnout for November 6 with music by the Pioneer Band and several hundred in attendance.
Industrial man with the Gas Company, T. M. Tibbals, has returned after a ten day vacation in Gainesville.
Mrs. J. D. Hefley Sr. attended a reunion of former Marvin College students in Waxahachie now Trinity University. The Dallas Fair alumni group, 90 plus attendees, featured roll call by maiden names and remnants of old friendships. Notable Texas alumni include Clarence Ousley, Royal Ferris, Dr. Marvin Graves, and Mrs. S. W. King who presided.
Judge W G Gillis led a Caldwell rally in a 5000 turnout for Governor Smith campaign. James F Buchanan spoke in Brenham and Elbert Dover was cited. R J Alexander introduced, Allen Academy band provided music, with more meetings planned over two weeks.

Otto Posival a 48 year old farmer at Buck bolts was fatally kicked in the right side by a mule while approaching a calf in a pasture. His dogs kept the animals at bay as he lay unable to rise. Mrs Posival summoned help and he died about thirty minutes after being found.
The jury in district court convicted W. N. Baggett of murder in the August 5 incident outside a Sand Grove school, sentencing him to 35 years plus a separate 49 year total claim noted in headlines, with appeal filed by defense attorney BE A. Camp. The defense claimed self defense against Aubrey Batey, husband of Ida, while state prosecutor Jack Lewis presented the case.
The Cotton Report shows 54 592 bales ginned in Milam County from the 1928 crop up to October 18, 1928, compared with 47 581 bales ginned to October 18, 1927. Grover H. Albert, Agent.
Dallas dispatch reports Texas Democrats rally to defeat Hoover in the upcoming election. Leaders Jed C. Adams W A Thomas and James Young cite unity after desertions, predicting Smith Robinson victory well beyond expectations as prohibition and economic issues redraw the political landscape. Texas voters are portrayed as returning to the Democratic fold en masse with Moody and Thomas praising the party’s candidate.
The Yoemen meet the Caldwell Hornets in Caldwell on Friday November 2 in a highly anticipated district proving game. Both teams boast strong defenses and offenses, each scoring over 150 points this season and allowing only two goal-line breaches, with Coach Perkins preparing a peak condition squad for a hard fought battle.
Manager Mack Akers of the American Legion Rodeo received high marks for a show hailed as one of the best in the event's history. Although finances lagged, the program was a success and Mr Akers earned congratulations. Next week the prize winners list will be announced.
Monroe Smith son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Smith Cameron returned home with his parents to Marlin this week where he underwent an operation for tonsillitis. He is a student at Southwestern University Georgetown. He has suffered from tonsillitis for some time and friends hope for a swift recovery.
