Cameron citizens show no change in behavior while city coffers rise from fines. In one month since the new department began under the charter, Chief Dolan reports 361.50 in fines, mainly against drunks and speeders. Some offenders were jailed and later fined for being drunk on public streets, contrasted with four year city averages around 746 in fines.
Members of Troop No. 83 and Troop 52, Boys Scouts of Cameron, will sell 20 gallon official trash cans with lids to residents within Cameron city limits to support sanitation efforts and fund sleeping bags and tents for the troop.
Nominations were announced at the Business and Professional Women’s Club meeting at All Saints Episcopal Church Parish House on May 21. Roberta Bowling was nominated for president, with Hinton Pruett first vice president, Ruby Fogle second vice president, Irene Williams recording secretary, Willie Mae Green corresponding secretary, Lillie McWilliams treasurer, and Katie Robbins parliamentarian. Guest speaker Perry Holder discussed Europe. Next meeting is June 18 with J D Lewis installing officers.
Mrs Lelia McAnnally Batte announces her History of Milam County is now off the press and available at Batte-Hick man Berniece's Shop the New Cameron Drug and at Mrs Batte's residence for purchase.
Cameron city council delays storm sewer work in the north tract after the legal department finds the $10,000 warrants cannot be issued under the charter. The delay shifts construction from the planned immediate start to a later date pending legal clearance and funding.
A concise religious reflection asks for revival and guidance to pray simply. It emphasizes trust in God and courage to face what such prayer may bring, closing with an Amen.
Robert H. Glenn, veteran of PMA, AAA and ASC with 15 years in government farm services and long service in Cameron, has moved to Giddings to become ASC office manager. His wife remains in Cameron with son Bobby, a Yee High School football player. a daughter lives in Houston. Glenn was born in Waco and remains active in farming, inviting Milam County friends to visit.
The Conoley community marks its twenty fourth annual homecoming on June 3 at Conoley Union Church. Basket lunches will be served at noon under the shade trees on the church lawn.
Cornelius Titsworth called from the Gulf edge to announce KWTX TV Channel 10 will air Monday June 4 at 12:15 noon featuring the Ten Acres program with Buckholts champion poultry judging team. Members include Stanley Joe Glaser James Faward Glaser Hal Lester Senkel and others like Alton Fuchs Titsworth and Joe Dean Zajicek showing the grand champion short horn steer at Houston Fat Stock Show.
Tom Collins of Cameron and Gloria J. Skopek of Rockdale were named $50 Rotary College Scholarships following a Rockdale club meeting. Twelve Milam county high school students also earned Rotarians Citizenship Awards for 1956, with recipients from Yee High Cameron Milano Thorndale Buckholts and Sharp honored at ceremonies and assemblies.

Berna Jane Tate, seven pounds fourteen ounces, was born May 19 to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tate of Victoria at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple. Mrs. Tate is the former Ida Mae Petty of Sharp. grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Tate of Cameron and the late Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Petty of Sharp.
Mrs Helen Marie Patterson librarian at Cameron Public Library manages the Learn To Live camp Letoli near St Jo Texas for eleven weeks. She serves as business manager in her third year with the North Texas Area Campfire Girls headquartered in Wichita Falls. The camp lies about 60 miles northeast of Wichita Falls in Montague County.
Cameron Independent School District eyed a fresh audit with Ray Vance of a Temple firm to price a full July start. The board approved initial bids for chair desk sets from American Seating and folding chairs from Bickley Brothers, while approving a June audit plan and a summer recreation budget split with the city.
The Disabled American Veterans Department of Texas plans its state convention in Galveston at the Galvez Hotel June 8 9 and 10 1956 to discuss war disabled issues and seek better compensation employment and hospitalization while reporting legislative needs. Delegates will prepare resolutions for the 35th DAV national convention in San Antonio in August 1925. Local attendees include Mr and Mrs Herbert Nance Mr and Mrs W F Obermiller and Mr and Mrs Eddie Huntsman. Memorial Day remarks urge peace with honor and honor for those who died.
Yoe High announces homemaking summer activities for adults and teens from June 4 to 16 in the HM department gym. Sessions run Mondays to Thursdays 9 to 12 and Saturdays 2 to 5 with home visits afternoons. Planned topics include slip covers, pressure cookers, leather tooling, clothing construction, and furniture refinishing. participants may propose other homemaking topics to Mrs. Edmonds or Mrs. Whatley.
Marcia Schiller daughter of Mr and Mrs Jerry Schiller of 305 E 10th Street owns Crickett the horse. She won third place in Waco in the children under 12 division and fourth place in Temple in the same group with Crickett at the Heart O Texas Horseshow and Texas Longhorn Horse show respectively.
Johnny Lee Nelson pleaded guilty in the newly organized Corporation court to a Peeping Tom charge. A $30.50 fine was imposed and paid. Key witness Mr. Coates testified Nelson was seen peeping into a neighbor’s windows at 300 N Jefferson, after an officer pursued a report from the previous night. The arrest followed a car number match and police response led by Chief Dolan.
W. L. McIntosh attended the American Fashion Association Fall and Back to School market in Dallas from May 27 to June 1. The event at the Adolphus Baker and Dallas hotels drew about 400 salesmen and displayed more than a thousand lines of women and children's apparel to roughly 5000 buyers.
Cameron travels to Rockdale on Sunday June 3 for a spring and summer hardball rivalry game set for 2 p.m. Cameron’s prior outing ended in an 8-4 loss to Sharp on May 27 in extra innings. Sharp’s Culp and Shelton starred, while Cameron’s Stratton faced Sapp, Wilkinson, and Tompkins. Heintze, Culp, and Florida each had three hits for their teams.
On May 23 at Sharp High School assembly Supt Geo M Larnl announced awards for the year. Recipients include Shirley Drummond all round girl Peggy Lawrence Danforth Foundation award and citizenship award. Bob Garner all round boy Bob Garner outstanding student in vocational agriculture Howard Pierce library award Sharon Joble Reader's Digest subscription. Raymond Rydell citizenship award. On May 25 Shirley Drummond and Bob Garner received the Rockdale Rotary Club Citizenship Awards for 1956.
Monroe Fuchs and Henry C. Hill from Cameron received baccalaureate degrees at the Texas A and M College commencement on May 25. Hill earned Poultry Husbandry while Fuchs pursued Animal Husbandry.
A meeting to organize Cameron summer recreation for grades nine through high school is set for June 7 at 6 30 p m at Yoe High Athletic Field. Directors Ann Hinyard and Leo Jackson urge participation of youths and adults to direct day and evening activities including boys softball and hardball, tennis instructors, and umpires. The program begins June 11 with full details to appear in next week's Herald, and parents are urged to attend with their children.
