A capacity First Methodist Church audience in Cameron heard Yee High School’s graduating class on Sunday evening May 27. Mrs J M Dawson of Waco gave the Baccalaureate address to a senior class praised for its attire and demeanor as they entered in cap and gown. The program included a processional and recessional by Miss Geraldine Slaughter, scripture by Rev E S Hutcheron, and a benediction by Rev Wallace Jones.
County officials led by Auditor Giles L. Arrett reduced the 1928 tax levy by five cents per hundred dollars of property, marking a thirteen cent cut over the past three years. The court credits economy in government for savings to taxpayers and continued efficient service. The jury view of the San Gabriel and Rockdale road was accepted and the road opened.
The Cameron Gun Club held its opening shoot at the Country Club on Wednesday evening. Scores included Missesan wad ing 50 birds, Cann Moody 45, Oxsheer Smith 44, Bob Terry 35, and A F Green 25. Visitors Terry and Green posted solid scores in their first outing. Club shoots weekly at five p.m.
The speaker argues Milam county girls and boys deserve the same education quality as larger schools. They urge less provincial attitudes and more informed leaders to build community structures that prepare graduates for life careers and retain priceless local values.

Cole, an artist of note and not a pupil, has won the South Texas Music Meet crown at Kingsville and held top local honors. Her upcoming move to Richmond with her father the Rev O. J. Cole earns regret from friends as she departs Cameron.
Tuesday night Mrs Henry Davis hosted a party for Ben Ibald Jr who is staying with the Davises from Oklahoma to attend high school. Guests included Frank Hubert Jack Owings John Wallace Dorothy Kidd Francis Smith Mary Newton Ethel Mondick Lelia Batte Adalyon Lorick Richard C Depew F E Jackson Jr Jimmie James Depew and Ben Heald Jr A letter from Miss Blanche Hensley praising the group was read and Mrs Davis was assisted by Mrs David Smith in entertaining.
Elbert O'Neal son of Mr and Mrs A R O'Neal is home for the summer from Galveston where he studied at the State Dental College.
The Gas Company will open a Cameron office Monday in the Sampson building next to the Auditorium Hotel. J. L. Braly becomes the new business manager and will supervise the office. Mr and Mrs Braly arrived to oversee building hauling. A factory representative will explain Roper Gas Stores merits as mains construction progresses rapidly.
Enwood Cammer has finished furnished cottages at Wayside Inn in Cameron offering the cheapest Texas rate at 1 dollar per day. The camp provides free electric lights water and other amenities while maintaining a clean attractive environment. Cammer expects to attract many visitors this year.
D J Cole, longtime Baptist missionary for Milam County and former pastor at Kingsville, accepts a call from First Baptist Church of Richmond in Fort Bend County. He and his family will move from Cameron to their new home in Richmond after years of service and popular speaking in the county.
Mr and Mrs Batte entertained about 75 Batte family negro employees and guests at their country home near Cameron with a barbecue and plantation program. Miss Maury tell Batte and Edwin Day, both graduates of Yee High School class of 1028, attended along with teachers and other guests. A negro orchestra, songs, dialogues and dances followed the banquet, with Mrs Batte stressing the value of higher education.
Mrs Clifton Jenness entertained the Bridge Club with guests including Mr and Mrs Stanton and Mr and Mrs W B Levy. High score prize went to Charlie Prank Green, low to Mrs Stanton Trossett. Mrs Jenness hosted a Friday matron’s bridge with bright spring flowers and tea.
Mr Lane Deason and his son are hosted by Dr John Deason and Mrs Deason in a social visit noted in society pages.
In Cameron district court a Memorial Day ceremony honored World War I and other fallen soldiers. J. D. Baskin chaired. Judge Gillis delivered the keynote on liberty and sacrifice. A roll call of deceased G S veterans, a moment of silence, and taps followed, with women volunteers presenting flowers and veterans decorating graves.
Troop 30 in Heart O Texas Council shows rapid progress with 24 boys and a new patrol forming. Five first class scouts have learned first aid and Morse code, meeting Fridays while hiking biweekly. Some plan summer camp at Valley Mills. consider a camp near Cameron. Eagle status requires 21 merit badges. parents cautious but urged to join under strong leadership.
Last Friday night Scout Meeting of Troop No 1 with twelve members present. Scout Master Leroy Massengale and new assistant Cecil Lewis led the session. Patrols Owl and Crow active. several boys passed Tenderfoot and Second Class tests. Plans include a scout base ball team and overnight hike. athletics like swimming, running, jumping noted. Urges for more recruits, parents urged to support Boy Scouts as training for manhood.
Miss Avice Jenkins, popular tea cher in Dilly public schools, visited her sister Miss Ethel Jenkins last Tuesday at Mrs Ike Lad better home. She was the honoree guest at a picnic given by close friends of Miss Ethel Jenkins.
The revival meeting announced last week opened Tuesday evening to a fine crowd and great interest. Byerly introduced the topic Why I believe the Bible to be Gods word and presented ten statements to support it. Evening services start at 7 00 and end at 9 15 with notable song and praise led by an orchestra. Thurs nights topic The Church Gods Agency Toward Salvation. Friday night What It Costs to be a Christian.
S M Burns Cameron attorney received inquiries this week from a Chicago dairy equipment firm seeking information about Cameron. They offer to help attract an industry to the city and quote butter fat prices from 50 to 60 cents per pound to benefit farmers.
Seventh grade and Ada Tenders on elementary students held graduation and promotion ceremonies in Yee High School auditorium on May 28. The program featured processional invocation songs salutatory class review class will valedictory address and diploma presentation with Rev P T Ramsaey Mrs J P Love and T A Fisher named among speakers and staff.
Dee Johnson will provide the music for a big Wayside dance on Saturday night June 2. Cammer expects a large crowd as the event promises something different.
